There are still some women who are not convinced that the internet is a worthwhile thing in their lives. But one aspect of the internet that many women have embraced wholeheartedly is emailing. When I last looked at the statistics women were early adopters of this function and by far the biggest users. We can see the point of emails - they help us to keep our world of contacts alive in a meaningful way.
But what has all of this to do with The Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health? Well, apart from emailing, obtaining relevant and reliable health information is one of the biggest draw-cards for women online. And not just for themselves but for their extended family. As we get older, we’re often the gatherers of health information for three generations - ourselves, our children and our parents. I think we could even add a fourth group - our friends - because we often share information with each other.
You’ll have noticed that during the past year I’ve been publishing monthly newsletters from the Foundation which will continue in 2010 so watch out for them. They’re often timely reminders. I also go to their website to read things when I hear about something in the news or when I’m curious about some health issue. It’s great to be able to tap into such a reliable source of health information.
Reading a recent article on their website reminded me of the expression ‘ Not now darling, I’m reading …’ Ah, the lure of a good book!
