Some time last year I wrote about a very special restaurant, Lochiel House at Kurrajong Heights, on the way up the Blue Mountains. Yesterday we called in for lunch, caught up with Monique, co-owner/chef and had yet another fantastic meal in front of the fire.
The food is a perfect marrying of what is available locally and in season with subtle overtones from Asian cuisines in a few of the dishes. They grow many of their own vegetables and herbs out the back near the barn. Yesterday they even had new season truffles from the Orange district on the menu.
I say it after every visit - it really is one of my favourite restaurants around Sydney. Once you enter through the old gauze door youI feel so relaxed and welcome - there’s a definite aura of gentleness and warmth that compliments the food brilliantly.
So I think it’s time to remind you to make a date and go to Lochiel House if you can. There are a couple of changes since my last post though; namely my old habit of indulging in scones for morning or afternoon tea is no longer an option - damn it! - they’re open only for lunch Thursday to Sunday and dinner Thursday to Saturday. Secondly, they now have their own website so take a look.
