In my post on the coal tanker Shen Neng 1 which ran aground on the Great Barrier Reef some weeks ago I mentioned the fantastic work done by the Australian Marine Conservation Society who act as guardians of our seas and oceans, with Tim Winton, the Australian author, as its Patron.
During the week I received their latest newsletter notifying me that the International Whaling Commission is meeting on 21 June and once again commercial whaling will be on the agenda. I usually check out their website, read any form letters they’ve drafted about particular issues, add some personal comments in the box provided and then ‘take action’ by clicking the box.
Coincidentally I also received an email prompt from TED to watch a short video. It’s presented by Brian Skerry a photographer who freelances for National Geographic. In this 16 minute video below Brian shows his amazing images and talks about the beauty and wonder of the marine life in our oceans and the threat of extinction that many are under from over fishing and climate change.
