Here’s a cookbook I love - Manna From Heaven by Rachel Grisewood. On a profusion of coloured pages, the recipes are there amidst Rachel’s life as she goes about mothering, working and cooking for family and friends, around her much-loved pink table. It connects with how food and cooking is a part of our daily lives too.
I’ve only had the book for a few weeks and already I can vouch for Spinach, Cummin and Coriander Flatbreads, Mushroom Tart with Olive Oil Pastry, Stuffed Leg of Lamb with Pine Nuts and Olives, Chilli Sticks, Milk Chocolate Fudge and Organic Chocolate Biscuits - next up are Cheese and Olive Biscuits for my family’s pre-Christmas barbeque.
When you watch Rachel in a cooking class and talk with her (my interview with Rachel is coming very soon) you be can see that Manna From Heaven truly reflects her personality. She’s a talented, colourful and generous cook. You’ll find loads of fantastic recipes along with lovely stories about her daughter Olive, the family rabbits, how one of her friends plays the accordion whilst Rachel prepares a simple meal … as well as really useful hints and suggestions on how to cook food that’s full of flavour and served with lots of love for those you love.
By the way, the name, Manna From Heaven, comes from Rachel’s business, started in her Bondi kitchen 17 years ago, making sweet morsels to sell in the burgeoning cafe scene that was Sydney in the early 1990’s.
