I have been a fan of Belinda Jeffery’s cook books for many years now and I know I’m not the only one. It’s really no wonder she’s so popular and that her recipes become firm favourites with home cooks. Her warmth radiates off the page and her recipes reflect her love of food, cooking and eating and they never let you down.
I was lucky enough to live close to Belinda’s very successful Good Health Cafe on the Lower North Shore of Sydney. Apparently one very well known food critic claimed it was the only good reason for crossing the Harbour Bridge! My friends and I were devastated when Belinda decided to move on. She became a TV food presenter, radio personality and cooking teacher and of course, contributor to delicious, the wonderful magazine published in Australia by ABC.
So if I couldn’t have Belinda cooking for me in her cafe, then the next best thing was to learn from her so I started following her cooking classes at Accoutrement and buying her cook books.
Over the years I’ve got to know Belinda personally. I asked her if I could interview her for Womensnook and she very generously gave time despite book and magazine committments as well as planning a cooking trip to Italy with Sue Jenkins. A woman like Belinda is inspiring because she follows a passion she’s had since childhood and through which she offers so much to home cooks like you and me.
I have her books – with many a melted butter stain marking the pages. I keenly await the new one due later this yea I think. It will be about food – I certainly hope so – and country life. I’ll let you know when it appears because I’m sure it will delight.
Watch for the first part of our chat which is coming online soon.
