Palm Beach Couture on Barrenjoey Road, Palm Beach is a little gem. The store reflects the atmosphere of the northern beaches of Sydney - which is very relaxed - so it has a ‘come on in’, sunny feel, with the focus on swim wear and resort wear.
Helene Esdaile, the owner, has been in fashion since the 60’s so she’s grown up with the babyboomers and understands how to focus on her customer’s needs. She concentrates on beach wear and casual clothing that suits the Australian summer lifestyle.
Oh dear, the mere mention of swim wear - the trying on, the different cuts, the frustration - it all gets too much sometimes doesn’t it? It seems that the best option is to hold onto that favourite old ‘cossie’ and hope that it lasts a few more seasons!
Where do you go to try on swim wear? It’s a real dilemma. Department stores, where help can be hard to
find, or shops that seem to sell mostly bikinis to bright young things, with maybe a small selection of one-pieces down the back as an afterthought? Palm Beach Couture is a much better option.
I’ve known Helene for many years and we often chat over coffee about how difficult shopping for swim wear and clothes can be for many women over 40. She has some great hints about how to dress to your strong points. I’ve made some notes as we’ve talked so I’ll bring them to you soon.
