Have you ever cooked a Jamie Oliver recipe? How many of his cookbooks do you own? Maybe you’ve watched quite a few of his TV episodes … He’s everywhere, his enthusiasm is infectious and his recipes are good. I’m automatically reminded of his recipe for gingerbread that I just love.
Jamie puts food and cooking in context - from increasing our knowledge and understanding of ingredients and where they come from to prompting us to prepare meals in our kitchens that are delicious and satisfying … and not just to our appetites.
His CV reads something like this:
Well, now Jamie has been announced as the 2010 TED Prize Winner. TED is a non-profit organisation devoted to sharing ideas worldwide. I check out their website from time to time to listen to interesting and thought provoking talks by people I would not normally have the opportunity to hear. When writing about Eat Pray Love I watched Elizabeth Gilbert talk about ‘nurturing creativity’ at a TED conference.
The TED Prize grants Jamie $100,000 (US) - and something much bigger - a wish to change the world. He’ll unveil his wish on February 10 at TED2010. I wonder what it will be? I’ll keep you posted…
