Well this is it - my first mention of Christmas! It had to come and I must say I can’t think of a better way to start thinking about the food side of things than by reading How To Do Christmas, a gem of a booklet by Rachel Grisewood. I stumbled upon it when I was interviewing her for WN recently.
Rachel is the creator of Manna from Heaven that’s based in Sydney and makes the most delectable sweet morsels you can imagine. Rachel’s background is as a chef and caterer so she knows a lot about how to plan for any occasion. I’ve followed her cooking classes for some years now and her recipes are just wonderful.
Anyway, Rachel’s booklet How To Do Christmas - Celebrate Christmas Without Crying is just the thing as you start to think about your Christmas 2009 menus. As she says - it’s a great way ‘to ensure that your Xmas does not involve you weeping into your turkey, shouting at the children or harbouring murderous thoughts toward your relatives.
We all have an ‘Aunt Joan’s’ pudding recipe, we all make our grandmother’s Xmas cake and the baked ham must be like our mother’s - you know how it goes - but sometimes we need a new injection of enthusiasm, some fresh ideas because lets face it, Christmas usually involves quite a few meals, apart from the big production on THE day.
So Rachel has included recipes and drink notes for -
