I’m really enjoying A Most Wanted Man by John Le Carre. I must say that after just finishing The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas for my book club, Le Carre’s spy mystery is a pleasure to read. It’s a ripping yarn with a tight plot and it’s got my attention.
Le Carre sets the story amidst a major issue that we’re aware of but know little about. You may remember The Constant Gardener, that became a fantastic film a few years ago, where Le Carre used international drug companies and their behaviour in Africa as the backdrop.
If you want to read a mystery that covers the post-9/11 world set in modern day Europe, with fascinating characters, this book may be for you. I know that I look forward to curling up in bed at the end of the day and ‘flying’ away to Hamburg to find out what happens next.
I’m reading A Most Wanted Man on the recommendation of Geordie Williamson and the ABC 702 Book Club. I’m a big fan of the 702 Book Club because it’s a great example of how old and new technologies have combined to provide a fantastic service.
The choice of books set by Geordie, since the book club started earlier this year, has been really good. Many are books that I’ve not been aware of. Every month I’d love to be up with the reading so that I can contribute online to the discussion or at least follow it. Currently I’m one book behind and I may never catch up! The great thing is that the notes and interviews for A Man Most Wanted are still on the ABC website for me to follow at my leisure.
