I like to match a face to a name and get to know someone by reading a few things about them. Don’t you?
So here’s a little post to say Hello and share some of my thoughts …
What really inspires you … Sunrise, moonlight, a starry sky, the aroma of bread baking, my husband and my daughter, going to the theatre, embroidery and other beautiful things made by hand, colour and texture, books about food and culture, clouds, trees, birds, humour, women who follow their passions, snorkelling, the horizon, window shopping in Paris …
What do you do to nurture yourself … I always try to follow my passions and continue to be curious about lots of different things
When do you feel your most creative … when I give myself a chance
What are you passionate about … Personally, I’m passionate about living my life one day at a time and having no regrets. On a much bigger scale I really hope that we - humankind - can find a way of co-existing with nature for the benefit of all living and non-living things. For this planet, Earth.
Tell us of some women you admire …
What women would you most like to interview … there are so many women quietly achieving so many things … the list is endless and I’d love to have them all tell their stories on WomensNook
Books on your bedside table?
What would be your ‘dream come true’ … to stand on Mt Everest as the full moon rises on the horizon
Your greatest fear … heights (hence the difficulty in achieving my ‘dream come true’!)
What do you dislike doing … having my photograph taken (read PS at the end)
What is your favourite season of the year … Autumn, every time. It’s just so delightful - the days are crystal clear, the temperature is perfect, the colours are dense (burnished brown, deep gold, plum reds) and we get to light our fire on the first chilly evening
Favourite scent … Orange blossom - sweet but with a touch of citrus
Favourite colour to wear … black, because it’s a great backdrop for everything from make-up to accessories
Favourite accessory … scarves. I have one particular favourite, an iconic Hermes print that reminds me of my horse riding days, full of styrups and bridles, riding boots and gloves, and the colours are glorious
Favourite interior colour … rich clotted creams
What is your favourite room in the house … I always seem to end up in my kitchen - I think it’s where I feel excited and creative, cosy and nurturing
Do you have a favourite meal … Oh I love a relaxed wintertime meal - say a Sunday night - after baking some bread during the day and then sitting with family and friends, sharing stories with a glass of wine, some cheese, the fresh bread and a bowl of minestrone.
What was your comfort food as a child … butter and Vegemite on fresh bread or a bowl of steamed rice - they still are if I’m feeling fragile!
What food do you like cooking and eating … I cook food from many cuisines and have favourites within them I guess. For French it would be brioche; Italian - pasta with anchovies, chilli and lemon; Chinese - steamed eggplant with spicy pork sauce; English - steamed puddings; Australian - a barbecue with lamingtons for dessert
Name some things that are always in your handbag … Lucas’ Papaw Ointment, sunscreen, camera, notebook and pencil, diary and phone, of course
What are your current interests… I love walking through the bush or along the beach, taking photos of anything and everything, doing some crewel embroidery and writing my daily journal
A favourite destination … it would have to be Paris - it seems to wrap me in a vapour of romantic fantasy that affects everything I see and do - even something as simple as eating a croissant from a local boulangerie or riding on the Metro

PS. I’d like to thank Samantha Mackie so much for taking the images of me - I feel very uncomfortable being photographed but Sam persevered!
